Dear Georgiana,
I deeply regret leaving in such a hurry. Elizabeth’s younger sister had eloped
with Wickham. They are said to be somewhere in London. Mr. Gardiner and I are diligently
searching for her. I thought I saw her in the street the other day, but by the
time I got over to where she was standing, she was gone. She must have ducked
into some alley and ran. After another week or so, I finally found her. She led
me to Wickham. He and I had a chat. I told him I would pay for his gambling
debts and the wedding if he agreed to marry Lydia. He agreed. I told him for as
long as he was alive he had to show his love for her everyday or I would expose
what really happened. My sincere apologies for departing without telling you.
Love,
Fitzwilliam
